◇ Astrud Gilberto, the Queen of Bossa Nova, who passed away on June 5, 2023, at the age of 83. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of her passing, we are releasing the compilation album "My Favorite Astrud Gilberto," which gathers her greatest hits.
◇ This release is a newly curated best-of album, featuring carefully selected songs from the 1960s when she established her position as a singer. Tracks 15 and 16 include "The Girl from Ipanema (Japanese Version)" and "The Shadow of Your Smile (Japanese Version)," which she recorded in Japanese for a special project album, "Golden Japanese Album," in 1969, as she was interested in Japanese culture at the time.
◇ Born in Brazil, Astrud Gilberto was married to João Gilberto, the "Father of Bossa Nova," who supported the early days of Bossa Nova. She made her singing debut in 1963 with "Getz/Gilberto," instantly becoming a Bossa Nova star. She subsequently released album after album, igniting a Bossa Nova craze worldwide.
