In 1974, when the nationwide production of Wenzhou mandarins peaked and began to become oversupplied, concerned about the future of local agriculture and questioning the heavy use of pesticides and chemicals in citrus cultivation, successors of mandarin farmers borrowed a 15-are (approximately 0.15 hectares) Iyo mandarin orchard to experiment with pesticide-free cultivation during the growing season. This was the beginning of Mucha Chacha-en.
The goal was to produce mandarins without relying on pesticides or chemical fertilizers. This philosophy remains the fundamental principle of Mucha Chacha-en today.
