In the eighth installment of the Mozart concerto series featuring notable soloists from young to mid-career, winner of the 2021 Queen Elizabeth Competition, Jonathan Furlong, makes his appearance. His 2021 recording of Brahms, released by ALPHA, was a session recorded just before the competition, making it a highly anticipated new recording for him. The program features the splendid performance of No. 18, which he also performed superbly in the semi-final of the Queen Elizabeth Competition, and the popular No. 21, a perfect pairing. Accompanied by the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra led by Howard Griffiths, known for interpretations of Classical and early Romantic works such as the complete Reiss Symphony cycle on CPO, the performance showcases Mozart’s music with thorough singing and great expansiveness, fully demonstrating his high expressive power. It is also delightful that Lipatti’s cadenza is played in No. 21.
