Mozart rooted in the deep tradition of Europe.
The performances recorded by the Czech master Kubelik with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra over three seasons from 1978 to 1980 on 9 LPs mark the deepening of this renowned conductor’s peak artistry. The collection of late Mozart symphonies recorded in June and October 1980, three each, sings deep emotion from within the works while maintaining perfect balance with intellectual structure and classical objectivity. The traditional counterpoint placement of first and second violins on the left and right is very effective (Nos. 36 and 41 were recorded alongside concerts, others in pure sessions). Although Kubelik’s recordings were not always strictly Mozartian, they are invaluable legacies from his later years. Winner of the 1981 Record Academy Award. Co-produced by CBS (David Mottl) and Bavarian Radio (Friedrich Werts), recorded at the Hercules Hall in Munich with Sony’s digital recorder, boasting top-tier European acoustics. Newly DSD remastered from two-track digital source in honor of Kubelik’s 110th birthday.
