2005年にPS2で発売されて一世を風靡したハンティングアクション『モンスターハンターG』を、Wiiに移植した作品。Wii版はクラシックコントローラ専用ソフトとなっており、オリジナル版に近い操作タイプがある他、携帯ゲームシリーズに近いボタン操作のタイプも用意されている。システム面では、オリジナル版にはなかった"ボックス内調合"や"武具のマイセット登録"などの新要素が追加されたことで遊びやすさが向上。最大4人による協力プレイが楽しめる"ネットワークモード"には、最上級クラスの"Gクラス"が用意され、ノーマルやハードとは異なるアイテムや素材の採集が可能となっている。また、TCG『モンスターハンターハンティングカード』のプロモーションカード1枚と、2009年夏に発売が予定されているWii『モンスターハンター3(トライ)』の体験版が同梱される。
