Concept [Artist's Thoughts]
In alleyways crowded with houses and buildings, illuminated by bright red paper lanterns and neon signs, tangled and hanging electrical wires and cables stretch like living creatures weaving between structures. This scene depicts a near-future coexistence with such old cityscapes, evoking a mysterious foreign land. I have packed a fragment of this story into a single photograph, capturing the experience of wandering into a strange, foreign city that feels both retro and nostalgic, yet also hints at the near future. About the Artist - Jack Poifilm (ジャック・ポイFILM)
Biography
- Born in 1984 in Mie Prefecture.
- Grew up observing rural snack streets and factory districts.
- Graduated in 2006 from Nagoya University of Arts, Department of Film.
- In 2007, studied photography independently and adopted the activity name "Jack Poifilm."
- First exhibited works at an event in 2009.
- Began photo compositing in 2010.
- Held a solo exhibition in Shibuya in 2012, and a group exhibition in Nagoya the same year.
- Started selling works online in 2013.
He has a fondness for old things, things that are fading away, mysterious places, rust, and iron structures. Using these motifs, he creates images of foreign cities and explores nostalgic locations.

The term "Asian Gothic" refers to the unique aesthetic style characteristic of Asia, which also contains connotations of barbarism and roughness. Scenes include alleyways crowded with houses and buildings, bright red paper lanterns, neon signs at night, and tangled electrical wires and cables that stretch like living creatures between structures.
