Shiho-kurenai is a Japanese paper suitable for "kaishiki" and "simplified money envelopes." Historically, "shin-sen," the food offered to the gods, was placed on top of leaves of Kashiwa (oak) or Nanten (nandina), which were believed to have purifying and antibacterial properties. This was called "minashiki." Later, based on the belief in worshipping the sun, which is pure and white and radiant, Japanese paper made from white and radiant Kozo (mulberry) began to be used. Kozo was called "shirotae" and is a synonym for white, as described in historical texts like the Nihon Shoki. Kaishiki are used differently for auspicious and mourning occasions, based on strict rules. When placing red and white sweets, the white one, symbolizing the radiant sun and "good fortune," is officially placed on the left. To ensure proper use, this item comes with instructions for Yamane-style Orikata diagrams [Kaishiki and Simplified Money Envelopes]. It is a very educational item.
Size: 18 x 18 (cm), includes Orikata diagrams, uses Hadayoshi paper
