Riot, an American heavy metal band that boasts great popularity in Japan, was formed as far back as 1975. Their debut album "Rock City" released in 1977 includes the song "Warrior," which is arguably an eternal classic known to all heavy metal fans. After releasing "Narita" (1979), "Fire Down Under" (1981), "Restless Breed" (1982), and "Born in America" (1983), the band disbanded temporarily in 1984. In 1986, they reformed with a completely new lineup except for guitarist Mark Reale. Their 1988 comeback album "Thundersteel," which increased their aggression, is highly acclaimed as a masterpiece. The participation of Don Van Staven (B) from the cult speed metal band S.A. Slayer added speed and aggression to Riot’s lyricism, creating a chemical reaction.
They continued their activities smoothly, but in 2012, they faced a great tragedy. The band’s founder and leader, Mark Reale, suddenly passed away due to subarachnoid hemorrhage. Remaining members Mike Flynn (G) and Don Van Staven decided to carry on the band’s legacy and continue. In 2014, they released "Unleash the Fire" and performed at Loud Park 14, impressing Japanese fans with the immortal spirit of Mark.
Now, Riot is releasing their highly anticipated new album, "Mean Streets." It is their 17th album overall, and the first in six years since "Armor of Light." As with "Thundersteel," this album bursts with powerful metal full of lyricism and aggression. Overflowing energy and poignant melodies that metal fans will love. This is a masterpiece that makes you want to say, "This is Riot, this is heavy metal." If you love heavy metal, this is a must-have.
The mixing was done by Bruno Ravel, bassist of Danger Danger. The Japanese edition includes a Blu-ray/DVD with live footage from the 2018 "Metal Weekend" in Japan, as well as a bonus disc with unreleased recordings such as live performances from the Mark Reale era and an unedited vocal version of "Killer" (from "The Privilege of Power" (1990)).
