It was developed as a sequel to the multi-genre role-playing game "Torg" and the sci-fi game "Shatterzone," which adopted an improved version of the Torg system.
Like Torg, the MasterBook system features two complementary combat formats within the game: a unified dice mechanic using two 10-sided dice, random number generation, character actions, and a game-specific deck of cards (the Master Deck, similar to Torg's Drama Deck) that influences character actions and the game's plot.
