Yamahisa Koyamaen is a long-established tea merchant with a history of over 300 years, headquartered in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. Located in Ogura, Uji City—a renowned production area for Uji tea—the company cultivates, manufactures, and sells tea leaves such as Matcha, Gyokuro, and Sencha.
**What is Usucha?**Usucha refers to tea prepared by whisking Matcha with a small amount of hot water. Compared to Koicha (thick tea), it uses a smaller amount of Matcha and is characterized by being whisked into a lather before drinking.
The term is read as "Usucha." It is also referred to as "Ousu."
**Characteristics of Usucha:*** Because it uses less Matcha, the flavor is lighter compared to Koicha.* Since it is whisked, it has a smooth mouthfeel.* The aroma of the Matcha can be richly experienced.
In tea ceremonies, Usucha is served as the final tea following Koicha. Additionally, when drinking Matcha in general households, it is most common to drink Usucha.
**How to Make Usucha:**1. Mix the Matcha powder well with a tea whisk (chasen).2. Pour in hot water and whisk with the tea whisk until frothy to complete.
**Tips for Enjoying Delicious Usucha:*** Mix the Matcha thoroughly so that the powder is uniform.* Using hot water at a temperature of 90°C or higher can better bring out the umami of the Matcha.* Whisking with the tea whisk in an upright manner will create fine, delicate bubbles.
Usucha is a tea that allows you to fully enjoy the deliciousness of Matcha. Please give it a try.
