Kofu Castle, located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, is one of Japan's Top 100 Castles. It was built at the end of the 16th century after the fall of the Takeda clan and once spanned approximately 20 hectares.
Kofu Castle is also known as "Maizuru Castle." It is called so because its elegant appearance, with overlapping white walls, resembles a crane spreading its wings. Today, a portion of the castle ruins is open to the public as "Maizuru Castle Park." From the castle tower's foundation, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Kofu Basin, as well as Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps. The view of Mt. Fuji from the park is recognized as one of the "100 Views of Mt. Fuji in Kanto." In addition to the scenery, many historical assets such as the stone walls, Inariyagura turret, and Yamate Gomon gate are also highlights.
