【"Principal Conductor Rattle" Finally Begins! Live Recording of a Favorite Piece Released in the Commemorative Year of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra's 75th Anniversary】
Simon Rattle, who succeeded Jansons as the 6th Principal Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra from the 2023/24 season, opened the season with his favorite pieces such as Mahler's 6th Symphony and Haydn's The Creation. In particular, Mahler's 6th Symphony was the piece he performed at his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic (1987) and his final concert as chief conductor of the same orchestra (2018). The fact that he chose this piece at the beginning of his tenure with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra suggests a special sentiment and complete confidence. The performance is as if he has the piece completely under his command, and the way the entire symphony flows with ample dynamism and fluidity, combined with the orchestra's masterful technique, is overwhelming. The performance, which does not paint the entire piece in shades of tragedy, but rather depicts it as a vast, multifaceted architectural structure embracing contradictions and hopes while preserving the layered musical texture, is rich in information. The excellent acoustics of the recording venue, Isarphilharmonie im Gasteig HP8, also contribute to conveying the details of the performance.
Furthermore, Rattle and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra are scheduled to perform Mahler's 6th Symphony from March to May 2024 in Vienna, Frankfurt, Cologne, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York, and from August to September in Salzburg, Lucerne, Berlin, and London.
