Product Description
This is a rare (border only) checkered pattern mat. Simply placing this mat can refresh a tatami room. It can be used to refresh sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to prevent soiling of new tatami mats.
Using the manufacturer's proprietary technology, the weaving machine was modified to express the checkered pattern solely through the natural colors and weaving of the materials.
For those who find plain mats uninteresting and desire a more luxurious feel, this is recommended.
It uses domestically produced Igusa (rush grass) from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, approximately 110 to 115 cm in length, with about 88 cm used.
Typically, the border edge appears stronger and whiter (not due to sunburn, but the color of the base and tip of the Igusa).
This characteristic of the base and tip color difference is utilized to create the checkered pattern. (Therefore, the checkered pattern only appears within the white base area; the middle part remains plain.)
Longer Igusa strands are considered more luxurious. The tips are reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).
Using domestically produced Igusa from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, each stalk is thicker, with a thicker epidermis and finer fibers, providing elasticity and durability.
Igusa has air purification properties, humidity regulation, and is resistant to dirt, among other features.
The surface has been processed with "Hiba Essence" extracted from Hiba wood from Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's proprietary technology.
Hiba Essence contains Hinokitiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties. (Compared to untreated products, it offers antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
Both sides of the mat can be used, making it economical.
