The workshop, originally founded by Zenjiro Imamura, who made his living creating fabrics for Kyo-yoroi (Kyoto armor), began crafting Kyo-yoroi itself. The current master, the fourth generation, has made a name for himself in the Kyo-yoroi world. While upholding the traditional techniques passed down from the renowned second-generation master Seiichi Sawai and the third-generation master Katsuo Imamura, his evolving, unique style presents a supple impression that contrasts with the robust image typically associated with armor.
He is a designated Traditional Craftsman of Kyo-yoroi by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. To this day, he is one of Kyoto's leading armor masters, having exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including the National Traditional Craftsmen Competition, and receiving high acclaim.
In ancient times, armor was imbued with various sentiments, serving as a symbol of status, honor, and dignity, as well as a guardian for the prosperity of descendants. Even as times change, the armor crafted by Issui, imbued with such sentiments, wishes for the healthy growth and great success of your child. It will surely protect them as they grow into fine adults. Furthermore, this spirit, through the armor, will undoubtedly be passed down from parent to child, and from child to grandchild.
Born in the city of "San-shi Sui-mei" (beautiful mountains and clear waters), Heian, and flowing like water from the foot of Higashiyama, without going against nature, it pours into the eternal and vast ocean. Wishing for people to live their lives with such magnanimity, he adopted the name Issui with a grand aspiration.
