ルイジアナでは、ピカソの絵画、素描、グラフィック作品の展覧会がこれまでに何度か開催されており、美術館には巨匠の作品もいくつかコレクションされています。ピカソの陶芸作品に特に焦点を当てた2018年の美術館の展覧会は、1947年から1964年までの160点の作品が展示された、スカンジナビアでこの種の初の大規模な展覧会でした。

1946年の夏、ピカソは南フランスのゴルフ・ジュアンに滞在しました。彼は友人と一緒に、陶芸工房が数多くあることで知られるヴァロリスで開催される陶芸展に行きました。この経験が転機となり、ピカソの陶磁器に対する好奇心と興味が目覚めました。

彼の静物画のインスピレーションは、特に地元の市場やビーチから得られ、ブドウ、イチジク、その他の食用の房を皿に盛り付けるスペインの古い伝統にも言及しました(プラトスデエンガーニョ)。

すでに1948年に、ピカソはヴァロリスのマドゥラ工房に定住の場所を確保し、自宅を南フランスに移すことにしました。近年の彼の芸術を特徴づけた明るい地中海の自然は、陶芸作品にも反映されています。

ピカソは南フランスで、絵画、デッサン、彫刻、グラフィック作品と並行して、約100万点の作品を制作しました。4000個のセラミックオブジェクト。すでに製品化されている皿や水差し、食器に塗装や加工を施す人もいます。
