The artwork is a print from Louisiana State, created by Swedish artist Karin Mamma Andersson (born 1962). The piece titled "Lyckokatt" (2014) was exhibited at Louisiana Museum in the 2021 exhibition "Hamdrom Days." Mamma Andersson is one of the most important painters of her generation, and Louisiana Museum was the first in Denmark to feature her work in detail. The artwork is printed on very strong, non-coated paper.
The lucky cat here, Rikkokatt, appears very friendly, but it also evokes memories of Mamma Andersson’s relationship with black. Black is often used by her in various versions on large surfaces. She employs it in warm, cold, glossy, matte, sometimes actively opaque, or as a thin spray covering landscapes, among other techniques. According to her own words, Andersson intentionally creates depth, darkness hiding death, and an aesthetic with black.

Mamma Andersson constructs her paintings based on art history references, found photographs, films, and historical clippings, many of which are in black and white. This allows her to choose colors more freely. Her works open up a world of suggestive, emotionally stirring stories within vast landscapes, interiors, and portraits, layering images upon images. However, her work is never a pure copy. Originality lies in new translations; Mamma Andersson shifts perspectives and plays with paint, charcoal, and chalk—thus giving rise to new stories.
