◆ What is Biwa Tea?
Biwa tea has been familiar as a common people's tea since the Edo period.
In the Edo era, it is said that Biwa leaf tea vendors appeared in towns, carrying boxes strung on a bamboo pole through Kyoto and Edo.
It became popular to brew and drink biwa leaves blended with cinnamon (nikkei), licorice (kanzō), and other ingredients, especially during hot weather.
The roots of biwa tea trace back to southwestern China. Old Buddhist scriptures refer to the biwa tree as the "King's Tree," and its leaves as "Wuyou Fan" (meaning "Worry-Free Fan").
During the Han Dynasty (around the 1st century BC), it was apparently consumed as biwa tea.

◆ How to Enjoy
Can be served hot or cold. Also suitable for shochu mixing or cooking as a substitute for water.
For brewing in a teapot: Place a tea bag in a teapot, pour hot water, and steep for about 3 minutes (approximately 800cc per bag).
For boiling: Place a tea bag in water, bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for about 3 minutes, and drink without removing (for a richer color and flavor, steep longer) (1 bag per liter).
