First CD release of Bill Evans' passionate performance during his final European tour, burning with the light of life.
Bill Evans' later years were described as "a suicide prolonged over time," where he gambled on the development of his trio and exhausting performances rather than clinging to life. This recording is from August 9, 1980, in Norway, just one month before his death on September 15, 1980.
While some of the unearthed recordings from Evans' later years, which were released without his approval, can be difficult to look at, in this work, he stated in a TV interview after the performance, "I can create the most vibrant performance I've ever had" and "similar in character to my first trio," indicating that he seemed to fully enjoy performing with this "last trio."
This stage, which could previously only be seen in video products, is finally being released on CD for the first time. With the latest remastering, we are able to deliver it to more jazz fans.
