Dento Foods' domestic chirimen is a type of dried young sardines (chirimen-jako) that is stored at room temperature. It is made using 100% domestically sourced Japanese sardine fry, resulting in a firm texture and a moderate salty flavor. No antioxidants are used.

In addition to eating it as is, it can be used in a wide variety of dishes such as dressings, stir-fries, salads, pasta, fried rice, and vinegared dishes.

Dento Foods is a food manufacturer that has supported Japan’s food culture for three generations. The third generation believes that “the systems for delivering agriculture, fisheries, and food to society must be passed on to the next generation in a good form,” and maintains a stance of directly dealing with producers rather than relying on trading companies for sourcing ingredients.

For their flagship product, seaweed tsukudani, they use seaweed directly purchased from fishermen in Kisarazu, a renowned area since the Edo period, without intermediaries. Unlike typical tsukudani made with dried seaweed, they prepare it with fresh seaweed, which brings out a richer flavor.

Furthermore, they visit not only the sea but also farms and satoyama (rural mountain areas) across Japan, paying attention to agriculture struggling with a shortage of successors.

They continue initiatives supporting food culture without relying on imports, such as domestically produced menma (bamboo shoots), takuan (pickled daikon), Edo vegetables, and indigenous varieties.

Since their founding, they have prioritized manufacturing without artificial additives. They do not use coloring agents, preservatives, antioxidants, leavening agents, emulsifiers, or pH adjusters, instead revising ingredients and methods to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients.

They employ a traditional direct-fire cooking method, which has been preserved since the company's inception, rather than using large-scale steam kettles. By applying high heat evenly, they achieve a fluffy and fragrant finish.
