This is a bright-colored Buddhist altar made from popular oak wood, which is also used in furniture.
The final finishing process, which greatly influences the quality of the Buddhist altar, is also completed by domestic craftsmen to bring out the texture (such as the wood grain) of the oak wood to the fullest.
Shizuoka Prefecture began with lacquerware production during the Edo period, and by the mid-Meiji era, the production of Western-style furniture had started.
Buddhist altars began to be manufactured as a derivative of furniture in the Showa era, and production has continued vigorously alongside furniture to this day.
Because Gratina has a simple design, it pays attention to detail, such as softly rounded corners, uniform paint matching each piece of wood, and carefully crafted thick and curved boards.
