Hailing from Indonesia, one of Asia's leading metal nations, the girl metal band "Voice of Bacheproth" is currently sweeping the world with their intense groove metal sound, powerful messages, and visual style featuring hijabs. Finally, their debut CD is being released worldwide for the first time! Additionally, a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" is included as a bonus track.
Indonesia is known as a major metal country, with President Joko Widodo openly declaring himself a metal fan and hosting large-scale concerts. However, it is also known for strict regulations, such as religious police detaining punks. In such a society, "Voice of Bacheproth" stands up as a form of "struggle" through metal music.
In 2014, three teenage girls—Firda Marsya Kurnia (vocals, guitar), Widi Rahmawati (bass), and Euis Siti Aisyah (drums)—formed the band in a small village called Singajaya in West Java, influenced by bands like System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, and Metallica. Initially performing cover songs, they soon gained recognition with their original style.
Their extreme sound, outstanding technique, lyrics with strong messages in both English and Sundanese, and visual style featuring hijabs have attracted attention on social media, creating a ripple effect across the global metal scene. They made their official debut with the single "School Revolution" in 2018. In 2021, they had a dialogue with Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, and in 2022, they performed at Wacken Open Air, the world's largest metal festival in Germany. In 2023, they embarked on their first North American tour, steadily progressing toward worldwide recognition.
VOB's first full-length album, "RETAS," is a culmination of their ten years of journey and serves as a prelude to new battles. With heavy riffs and a groove that shatters bones, their real messages are delivered over rhythms that shake the earth.
Songs include:
- "What's the Holy (Nobel) Today?" — an anti-war song calling for "STOP WAR!"
- "PMS" — referring to "Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya" (Completely Free Women)
- "The Enemy of Earth Is You" — presenting a pessimistic view that "humans are the enemies of the planet"
- "(Not) Public Property" — a protest song against sexual exploitation of women
Though sometimes viewed as enemies by conservative segments of their community, they assert in "God, Around Me (Please) to Play Music," "I am neither a criminal nor an enemy. I just want to sing from the heart." Their sincere attitude undoubtedly makes their music more dynamic and heartfelt.
Being artists, women, and above all, human beings—"Voice of Bacheproth," meaning "noisy voices," is a declaration of a loud identity from three individuals who pursue their path with strong will, directed toward the world.
