As a commemorative item for the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s legendary first Japan tour in 1971, the latest edited CD & DVD collector’s edition is now available! The 1971 debut Japan performance remains one of Led Zeppelin’s most acclaimed live performances, leaving behind numerous legendary stories from their shocking live shows to off-stage antics. While many live recordings of this historic performance have been known, the Osaka concert on September 29—the final show often associated with the “929” recording—was planned as a live album but was not authorized by Jimmy Page, making it an elusive story.Since the 1970s, incomplete soundboard recordings have circulated, and various releases have been made in different formats.
This release features the “Winston Remaster,” based on the latest remastered sound sources from the overseas sound research team, supplemented with multiple audience recordings to achieve a complete concert recording. It has been newly restored and edited for the 50th anniversary “New Remaster.”A notable feature is that the main soundboard source has been replaced with a “new dimension 4-track stereo remaster,” utilizing the latest multi-track analysis technology to individually enhance the sound. This results in a stereo remaster that differs from past mono, pseudo-stereo, or original stereo versions.
The difference is clear when listening: vocals resonate more realistically, guitars are clearer and more distinct, bass and drums are more powerful, and overall, the sound image is sharper. This represents a genuine “new dimension” in sound quality beyond simple equalization.
Sound research has continued to advance, and many collectors recommend this as a faithful, complete version that closely matches the original sound, including the longest possible combined audience recordings. It is an intriguing new reference point among many existing releases.Furthermore, due to its excellent sound quality, it is also recommended as an introductory title for those hearing Led Zeppelin’s live recordings for the first time, without obsessive detail.
The performance itself needs no further explanation; this final concert is a special, legendary event that will be remembered as a peak and a historic performance.
The DVD contains rare footage from the “legendary first Japan visit,” including live footage from the September 23rd Tokyo Budokan performance, which was recently released and introduced on the official website. It also includes private film footage shot by Jimmy Page and staff in Japan.Although fragmentary 8mm footage, it vividly captures the shocking live energy of that time. Additionally, two versions of private films are included, showing scenes from the airport, hotel, Shinkansen, and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
This collection compiles invaluable footage unique to Led Zeppelin’s first visit to Japan in 1971.
Presented as a special 3-CD & DVD collector’s edition for the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s legendary first Japan visit!
