Laoganma
The condiment that became a huge boom in Japan, "eating chili oil." In China, the birthplace of chili oil, the one associated with eating chili oil is the "Laoganma" with a woman's face photo.
The person in the photo is its founder, Tao Huabi. Born in Guizhou Province in 1947, she opened a street stall in 1989 selling cold noodles and liangfen (Chinese-style jelly noodles), and there, she began making "la jiao jiang" (chili sauce) as a seasoning exclusively for liangfen.
Liangfen sold like hotcakes, but when the chili sauce ran out, sales stopped completely. Noticing the popularity of the chili sauce, she was encouraged by those around her to establish a production factory for the chili sauce.
Students who frequented her stall affectionately called her Tao Huabi "Gama (mother)," and the brand name was set as "Laoganma." To sharpen her taste and olfactory senses, she does not drink tea or soft drinks, and her chili sauces and chili oils are now sold not only in China but also in Japan and various Western countries.
This is an authentic chili oil that contains a lot of chicken extract and umami.
