Guitarist, composer, producer.
Born in Shibuya, Tokyo, in 1953. A top jazz guitarist that Japan proudly boasts to the world, both in name and reality.
Debuted with a shocking album at age 17.
Since the emergence of the astonishing genius guitarist, which caused a stir, for 45 years, he has continuously created cutting-edge instrumental music and active on the front lines.
His captivating improvisations, produced at a fast tempo, and rich melodies, combined with meticulous playing techniques, imbue each sound with expressive richness, and he is also known for creating his own unique style.
`79, starting with the legendary all-star band formed with Ryuichi Sakamoto, participating in YMO's world tour made Kazumi Watanabe's name known worldwide.
Represented by the record-breaking hit album of 1980, he has led the field as an icon of jazz fusion.
He has performed with many musicians who have left a mark in history, both domestic and international, and has held concerts worldwide.
Currently, he is active in various jazz fusion projects, releasing solo albums centered on acoustic instruments, touring live, and being invited to overseas festivals for solo and project performances, balancing activities domestically and internationally.
Leveraging his innate improvisational talent, he has built a unique world in composition and arrangement.
His commissioned works from the classical guitar world have also been well received.
Furthermore, his activities include producing stage music, providing performances for film music, and more.
In recent years, he has been engaged in a feast with orchestras centered around his work, arranging and performing with three guitars, and his pursuit and love for the guitar remain unwavering.

He is a visiting professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, Jazz Course.

In May 1979, immediately after completing "KYLYN," a limited-time all-star band of nine members conducted a nationwide tour at 15 locations. During this tour, the "KYLYN" project was born at Roppongi PIT INN, and a 3-day live recording from June 15 to 17 was made into a two-disc set. (C)RS
