Following the folk song mountain range supervision releases of 'Yumigami Kagu' and 'Sakaishi Nage Odori', the third release features a killer folk song with dazzling boosted bass that makes you tremble, "Kizaki Ondo," released in both the original version by the local preservation society and the contemporary TRAP version.
It is the first folk song recorded on record in our country and is loved as one of the largest dance club hits in the folk song world, "Yagibushi." Its direct source is the Bon Odori song "Kizaki Ondo," still transmitted today in Kizaki, Nitta Town, Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. The power of this song eclipses any folk music dance tune. Did the studio misadjust? I couldn’t help but doubt my ears at the distorted bass and strange reverberation that color this massive low beat. The lyrics vividly depict the story of a courtesan living in the nightlife district. This is neither Ghetto Bass born in Chicago nor Trap born in Atlanta. It is a Japanese folk song nurtured in the daily life of North Kanto.
This time, with the cooperation of the Kizaki Ondo Preservation Society, we remastered and included a live recording from the lively night of the Bon Odori festival from Showa 55 (1980). As a new attempt, we also included a newly recorded version of "Kizaki Ondo" by Naito Clark. Naito Clark, who samples garage punk tracks and is active in the GORGE scene, is a talented MC/track maker who connects B.B. King and bass music with the term "3-minute R&R." The joint work of Folk Song Mountain Range and Naito Clark created a modern version of "Kizaki Ondo" with trap beats and sweet synths. This is an extension of the act of Folk Song Mountain Range performing "playing folk songs loudly on turntables" at Soi48 parties, and a proposal for a "new way to enjoy folk songs." We hope you enjoy it simply as cool music.

About the artist
"Kizaki Ondo" is a folk song from Nitta Kizaki Town in Gunma, north of Tokyo.
Performed annually by local performers at the traditional summer dance festival Bon-Odori,
the song features unabashed lyrics about prostitution along with a rhythmic drive sure
to appeal to fans of contemporary electronic genres as well as aficionados of
traditional music. The first track is a wildly echoing vocal version recorded in 1980,
reminiscent of humid summer nights; the second track, recorded in 1981, is an instrumental
version, both by the Kizaki Ondo Preservation Society. The other two tracks are
extensions of tradition, with Tokyo-based producer Naito Clark's 2018 revisions of
"Kizaki Ondo" providing trap-inspired interpretations, with a vocal version using the
original lyrics, along with a sweet instrumental take. This release, the third
edition of the EM Records Japanese folklore series, directed by Riyo Mountains, is
available on CD, LP, and download, with English lyrics and notes, and rare photos.
