About the Fabric:Uses vibrant kimono and obi fabrics from the Showa era’s celebratory days. Some materials and weaves are rare and have been discontinued. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan. Due to the high-quality raw materials, this product is only possible as a remade, used, and upcycled item.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan’s largest bag production area. Crafted by skilled bag artisans at companies that sell materials for bags and have their own YKK zippers. Pattern placement, orientation, and the front-back direction of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo. Subsequently, molds are created at a factory that produces the cutting dies, which are then used to cut and sew the fabric. Since kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weave, thickness, and texture, sewing is labor-intensive and considered difficult even for experienced artisans.
In Toyooka, traditional techniques such as willow basket weaving from the "Kojiki" legend have been passed down, including the craft of woven willow baskets called "Yanagi-bako." Under strict quality control cultivated over a thousand years of tradition, production is carried out with care.
Precautions for Purchase:Fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. Therefore, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, scratches, or deterioration. While efforts are made to exclude these, some may remain. Please understand that this product is made by recycling and upcycling old materials from different eras, not new.
Color: We take great care to display accurate colors, but slight differences may occur due to monitor settings on your computer or mobile device. Please understand in advance.
Size: Although cut with molds and sewn by skilled artisans, kimono and obi fabrics vary in thickness and embroidery, which can cause slight size discrepancies, such as a smaller fit for thicker or heavily embroidered items. Please understand this in advance.
Handling: The kimono, obi, and cords are likely made of silk, but due to their used condition, this cannot be guaranteed. (The Consumer Affairs Agency states there is no obligation to include such details on the product.) We recommend washing with a silk-specific detergent or consulting a professional kimono cleaner.
