About this product
A filter that cuts light pollution and expresses the true colors of the night sky. The "Starlight Night" is an astrophotography filter for starry sky and night scenery that effectively cuts "light pollution" from lights such as sodium lamps and mercury lamps.
Cuts only specific wavelength ranges of light. It cuts only the wavelength ranges of commonly used streetlights, such as 589nm (sodium lamps) and 435nm/546nm/577nm (mercury lamps), allowing the true colors of the night sky to be expressed.
Usable without lens restrictions. The "Starlight Night" has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, and does not cause color shift even with wide-angle lenses, making it suitable for starry sky photography. It also performs well in time-lapse photography, which is difficult to post-process.
Compatible with auto white balance. The "Starlight Night" is not a filter that adjusts colors, so you can use it with white balance set to auto. You can manually adjust the color temperature if desired.
Product specifications: Filter size: 49mm / Frame thickness: thin frame / Exposure factor: 1/3 stop / Country of manufacture: Japan / Packaging: limited original design

During nighttime photography or video shooting, lights such as sodium lamps and mercury lamps in the city affect the sky, making the night sky appear overall reddish. This is called "light pollution."
By appropriately cutting out this "light pollution," a filter called "light pollution cut filter" allows you to photograph the night sky in its original colors. We want everyone who takes starry sky and night scenery photos to capture more beautiful starry skies and night scenes. That is why the "Kenko Starlight Night" light pollution cut filter was created for starry sky and night scenery photography.
"Starlight Night" has the property of cutting only specific wavelength ranges of light, suppressing color cast caused by sodium lamps and mercury lamps commonly used in street lighting, and expressing the true colors of the night sky.
Unlike conventional light pollution cut filters such as "ASTRO LPR," it has no restriction on the focal length of the lens used, so it can be used with ultra-wide-angle lenses commonly used in starry sky photography without issues. The frame is designed to be thin to reduce vignetting. It also features knurled processing for a better grip, making it easy to attach and detach outdoors. Made in Japan with reliability and peace of mind. Some lenses may cause vignetting.
Features of the product
A light pollution cut filter that suppresses color cast caused by city lights
Especially in urban night skies, the influence of sodium and mercury lamps causes the image to have a yellow or orange tint. Using "Starlight Night" reduces this color cast, enabling natural color reproduction. Even when finishing images with photo editing software, pre-cutting light pollution with this filter reduces processing steps and makes RAW development easier. It is truly a filter for starry sky and night scenery photography, born from the desire for everyone to capture more beautiful starry skies and night scenes.
Ideal for starry sky and night scenery photography
Unlike conventional light pollution cut filters, "Starlight Night" has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used and does not cause color shift even with wide-angle lenses, making it ideal for starry sky photography. It also performs well in nightscape shooting and time-lapse photography, which is difficult to post-process.
Auto white balance is fine
"Starlight Night" is not a filter that adjusts colors, so you can use it with white balance set to auto. Please adjust the white balance settings to your preference.
Also recommended for use with soft filters
By stacking "Starlight Night" with a soft filter, which enhances constellations by diffusing stars in starry sky photography, you can create even more impressive works. The "Pro Softon" and "Pro Softon Clear" series are particularly recommended.
When stacking filters, be aware that the edges of the image may turn black due to vignetting. Try posting starry sky photos on SNS with the hashtag "#StarlightNightFilter". Manufacturer's explanation
A light pollution cut filter that suppresses color cast caused by city lights
Even when finishing images with photo editing software, pre-cutting light pollution with a light pollution cut filter reduces processing steps and makes RAW development easier.
"Starlight Night" is optimal for starry sky photography because it has no restriction on the focal length of the lens used and works well with wide-angle lenses. It also performs strongly in nightscape shooting and time-lapse photography, which is difficult to post-process.
White balance can be set to AWB (auto white balance) for effective results. You can also manually set the color temperature or switch to fluorescent mode if desired.
Because "Starlight Night" cuts light pollution, the amount of light entering the lens decreases. The exposure factor is 1/3 stop. When shooting the starry sky with manual exposure, using the same settings as without the filter will result in underexposure, so be careful. When using auto exposure, the camera will adjust the exposure automatically.
Recommended items to use with "Starlight Night"
