About this product
A filter that cuts light pollution and expresses the true color of the night sky. The starry night landscape and night view photography filter "Starry Night" effectively cuts light pollution from sodium lamps, mercury lamps, and other lights.
Cuts only specific wavelength ranges of light. It cuts only the wavelength ranges of lights commonly used in streetlights, such as 589nm (sodium lamps), 435nm/546nm/577nm (mercury lamps), allowing the true color of the night sky to be expressed.
Usable without lens restrictions. Starry Night has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, and since it does not cause color shift even with wide-angle lenses, it is suitable for star landscape photography. It also performs well in timelapse shooting, which is difficult to post-process.
Compatible with auto white balance. Since Starry Night is not a filter that adjusts colors, you can use it with the white balance set to auto. Adjust the color temperature manually if desired.
Product specifications: Filter size; 49mm / Frame thickness: Thin frame / Exposure multiple: 1/3 stop / Country of manufacture: Japan / Packaging: Limited original design

Nighttime photography. During night video shooting, lights such as sodium lamps and mercury lamps in the city affect the sky, making the entire night sky appear reddish. This is called "light pollution."
By appropriately cutting out this "light pollution," you can photograph the night sky in its original colors. This filter is called a "light pollution cut filter." We want everyone who takes starry night and night sky photos to enjoy more beautiful starry skies. That is why the starry landscape and night view filter "Kenko Starry Night" was created.
"Starry Night" has the property of only cutting specific wavelength ranges of light, suppressing color cast caused by sodium and mercury lamps commonly used in streetlights, and expressing the true colors of the night sky.
Unlike conventional light pollution cut filters like "ASTRO LPR," it has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, so it can be used with ultra-wide-angle lenses commonly used in star landscape photography. The frame is designed to be thin to reduce vignetting. It also features knurled processing for a better grip, making outdoor filter attachment and removal easier. Made in Japan with trusted quality. Some lenses may experience vignetting.
Product features
Light pollution cut filter that suppresses color cast caused by city lights
Especially in urban night skies, the influence of streetlights such as sodium and mercury lamps causes the images to have a yellow or orange tint. Using "Starry Night" reduces this color cast and allows for natural color reproduction. Even when finishing images with photo editing software, pre-cutting light pollution with "Starry Night" reduces processing steps and makes RAW development easier. This is truly a filter for starry landscape and night view photography.
Ideal for starry landscape and night view photography
Unlike conventional light pollution cut filters, "Starry Night" has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, and it does not cause color shift even with wide-angle lenses. Its thin frame design minimizes vignetting, making it especially suitable for star landscape photography. It also performs well in night view shooting and timelapse photography, which are difficult to post-process.
OK with auto white balance
Since "Starry Night" is not a filter that adjusts colors, you can use it with the white balance set to auto. Adjust the white balance settings to your preference.
Recommended to use with soft filters
By stacking "Starry Night" with soft filters that blur stars and highlight constellations in starry landscape photos, you can create more impressive images. Especially suitable are the "Pro Softon" and "Pro Softon Clear" series.
When stacking filters, be aware that the edges of the image may turn black due to vignetting. Try posting your starry landscape photos on SNS with the hashtag "#StarryNightFilter."
Light pollution cut filter that suppresses color cast caused by city lights
Even when finishing images with photo editing software, pre-cutting light pollution with this filter reduces processing steps and makes RAW development easier.
"Starry Night" has no restrictions on the focal length of the lens used, making it ideal for starry landscape photography. It also performs well in night view shooting and timelapse photography, which are difficult to post-process.
White balance can be set to AWB (auto white balance) for effective results. You can also set the color temperature or switch to fluorescent mode as desired.
Since "Starry Night" cuts light pollution, the amount of light entering the lens decreases. The exposure multiple is reduced by 1/3 stop. When manually shooting starry skies, using the same settings as without the filter will result in underexposure, so please be careful. In auto exposure mode, the camera will adjust exposure automatically.
Recommended items to use with "Starry Night"
