Product introduction
The Kenko PRO1D Circular PL filter uses polarizing film to control light reflection and is a standard filter for landscape photography. To prevent "finder image color shift" caused by interference with the half-mirror of digital single-lens reflex cameras, it adopts the "Wide Band 1/4λ phase difference plate." It is a PL filter compatible with both digital and film cameras.
Reduces or eliminates surface reflections on water and glass, and can also emphasize reflections. It enables true color expression of subjects, making it an essential item for landscape and nature photography.
The filter frame has a thin design, compatible with wide-angle lenses. It can be used in a wide range of scenes.
More
New generation PL filter with high transmittance achieved by applying digital multi-coating (DMC)
With a thin frame design for safe use with wide lenses, and adopting the newly developed "Wide Band 1/4λ phase difference plate" to prevent "finder image color shift" caused by interference with the half-mirror of single-lens reflex cameras. The top-tier PL filter supporting both digital and film.
Ultra-lightweight and ideal for wide-angle lenses with a thin frame
While achieving a thinner glass thickness than standard PL filters, durability remains unchanged. Despite the thin frame, a screw is provided at the front of the filter, allowing attachment of a lens cap.

Express vivid colors with Kenko "PRO1D WIDE BAND Circular PL (W)"
Upgrade your landscape photography
The PL filter that vividly expresses the original colors of subjects is an essential item for landscape photography. It also removes reflection light caused by dust and chaff in the air, clearly expressing the contrast between sky and clouds. Additionally, features like the digital multi-coat with a surface reflectance of less than 1% in the PRO1D series reduce light loss, and the black coating on the glass perimeter prevents internal reflection, focusing on image quality.
Effect of PL filter "Reflection removal effect"
One of the representative effects of the PL filter, "reflection removal effect." Using it removes reflections and can vividly capture the color of the sea. It works on surfaces such as glass, leaves, rocks, buildings, and ground, as well as water reflections. However, it has no effect on reflections from metals or mirrors.
Effect of PL filter "Color contrast effect"
Another major effect of the PL filter is the "color contrast effect." When sunlight hits molecules in the atmosphere, scattering occurs. Using the PL filter suppresses this scattering, making the sky a deeper blue and increasing contrast with cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and white clouds.

Unique features of the "PRO1D" series that realize high image quality and ease of use
Thin frame design compatible with wide-angle lenses
If the filter frame is thick, vignetting may occur at the corners when using wide-angle lenses. To prevent this, the "thin frame" is designed with a thinner frame than usual.
Knurled anti-slip processing for improved operability
Knurled anti-slip processing is applied to both the front and rear frames, enhancing operability when adjusting PL effects or attaching/detaching the filter.
Compatible with lens caps and hoods
The filter has a screw at the front, allowing attachment of lens caps and hoods even when the filter is mounted.
Black coating on the glass perimeter to reduce internal reflection
Black coating on the outer edge of the filter glass prevents internal reflection, reducing flare and ghosting compared to standard filters.
How to use the PL filter: Hold it up
Hold the filter toward the subject and try changing the handle angle within 90 degrees. If reflections or the sky become darker or brighter, the effect is working. When a good effect is achieved, remember the approximate position of the mark on the frame.
Be careful not to mistake front and back sides
Attach
Place the rear frame against the lens and turn it clockwise to attach. Do not turn the front frame to attach. To remove, hold the rear frame and turn counterclockwise.
Turn the front frame
Turn only the front frame to adjust the PL effect. If you remember the position when the effect appears, bring the mark to that position. Instead of gripping the side tightly, turn with your fingers on the tip, avoiding accidental dropping.
Which size should I buy?
Check the front or side of your lens, or the back of the lens cap, for markings like "Φ00mm" or "Φ00," and choose a filter of that size.
Key points for mastering the use of PL filters
Point the camera with the sun behind it at a 90-degree angle
To enhance color contrast in landscapes with blue skies, the sun's position is crucial. The most effective results appear when shooting with the sun behind and at a right angle to the camera, and in the blue sky on either side.
Minimal effect during backlit or cloudy shooting.
When attaching a PL filter to an ultra-wide-angle lens to shoot the sky, "areas where the sky turns blue" and "areas where it does not" may appear, causing a mottled sky. To avoid polarization unevenness, change the shooting position or use the PL effect more mildly.
Shoot at an angle of 30-40 degrees relative to the water surface
To remove reflections from water, glass, or leaf surfaces, shooting from an oblique angle is effective. The most effective is at 30-40 degrees relative to the plane.
No effect on direct frontal shooting or reflections from metal surfaces.
Conversely, increase reflections? Secret tips
Actually, the PL filter not only removes reflections but can also make reflections appear more prominent than when not using the filter. Rotating the frame 90 degrees from a reflection-removed state makes water surface reflections look increased. Use this to create works with stronger water reflections.
