A Tour of Miura Peninsula by Bus with a View of the Sky
The Keikyu Open-Top Bus, which has been operating in Miura Peninsula since 2007, is a double-decker bus with an open-top structure.
On September 5, 2024, a new model of this bus was introduced and began operating on a new route.
This work records rare footage, viewable only here, from the time the new bus was imported to Japan, through painting and maintenance work, until its debut.
It includes onboard footage of the scenery from both the new and old buses, as well as footage synchronized with the guide's explanations of famous spots, and a model introduction including footage of the engine room housing the Scania engine.
On January 12, 2024, the new bus was unloaded at Daikoku Pier.
The pure white, unpainted body is a rare sight that can only be seen at this time.
Afterward, it underwent maintenance by the importer, Hato Bus, and cooperating companies, before its debut.
The new Keikyu Open-Top Bus departs from Miura-Kaigan Station, runs along the white-capped east coast, heading towards Jōgashima at the tip of the peninsula, and then to Misaki Port "Miura Marche."
The guide's lively narration is also enjoyable. The vehicle is a Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 3 equipped with a Scania engine.
You can enjoy the differences from domestic buses.
The old Keikyu Open-Top Bus (operation ended on August 21, 2024) departed from Misakiguchi Station, ran through the inland area, stopped at Jōgashima, and then returned to Misakiguchi Station on a circular course along the west coast of Miura Peninsula.
On this new course, you can enjoy scenery typical of Miura Peninsula such as Moroiso Bay, Aburatsubo Bay, and Koajiro Bay, which cannot be seen on the new route.
The vehicle is the last domestic double-decker bus, a Mitsubishi FUSO Aero King. Enjoy the energetic run of this veteran.
