255 Series 9-Car Set 10-1870 KATO Electric Train
■The 255 series was used for Boso limited express services and retired from regular operation in March 2024, with some units being scrapped. It was replaced by the E259 series, which became surplus due to reduced N'EX services. While there were reports that some units would remain for charter services, considering that the E351 series and 651 series, which were also supposed to have some units remain for charter services, have been completely retired, it is possible that the 255 series may also be completely scrapped depending on future circumstances. As of 2026, only one trainset remains and is announced for use in summer special services for charter and reserve purposes. However, it appears to be prone to breakdowns, as evidenced by the cancellation of its special operation during Golden Week 2026.
