New Traditional Craftsmanship ~ The "Karakuri Box" is a new form of traditional craftsmanship born from the techniques of the Himitsu Box (Secret Box).
The wooden Karakuri Box, evolved from Hakone's Himitsu Box, one of Japan's representative traditional crafts, by incorporating innovative ideas and puzzle elements, was created by the artisans of the Odawara "Karakuri Creation Research Group."
Hanayama, a maker of 3D puzzles, has made it possible to manufacture these in resin, which was previously considered difficult, by utilizing precision casting technology. The appearance has also been renewed with lacquer as the theme, incorporating "Japanese" aesthetics. Now, the "Karakuri Box" has undergone a new evolution.
Dice are adorned with 1 to 6 maple leaves. The dice are polished to a finish that resembles lacquer, but they contain a surprising mechanism: by rolling them sequentially from one leaf to two, then three, and then four, the lid opens.
