[First Press Limited Edition] [2-Disc SA-CD Hybrid + Blu-ray] [Green Color Label Coat]
● "John Williams in Tokyo" is an album that captures the concert held last September when legendary composer John Williams, who has shaped the history and sound of film music, visited Japan for the first time in 30 years and performed with the Saito Kinen Orchestra.
● John Williams is a legendary composer and conductor who has been a top runner in Hollywood film music for over 50 years. He boasts a brilliant award history, including 5 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards, and most recently, the "Best Instrumental Composition" award at the 66th Grammy Awards, bringing his total Grammy wins to 26.
● This release is a limited deluxe edition featuring a 2-disc SACD hybrid set containing all 17 songs performed at the Tokyo concert, and a Blu-ray disc with the complete live performance footage. It includes the world premiere release of "Tributes! (for Seiji)" and a symphonic suite from the film "E.T." from the first half of the program conducted by Stéphane Denève, as well as "Superman March (from the film 'Superman')" and "Hedwig's Theme (from the film 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone')" from the second half of the program conducted by John Williams himself. It also includes three encore pieces such as "The Imperial March (from the film 'Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back')".
● Last September, John Williams visited Japan at the invitation of Seiji Ozawa to participate in the "Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival," for which Ozawa serves as General Director, and a special performance commemorating the 125th anniversary of the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon. Following his collaborations with the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Recording Arts Orchestra, he made his first appearance with the Saito Kinen Orchestra. Tickets for both performances were in high demand, with applications flooding sales sites, and sold out on the same day, generating significant buzz.
● John Williams and Seiji Ozawa have been close friends since Ozawa's tenure as the 13th Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and his time hosting the Tanglewood Music Festival in western Massachusetts. The collaboration between John Williams and the Saito Kinen Orchestra in Japan was a long-held dream of Seiji Ozawa.
