This is a record of the "Yakumo," "Kounotori," "Kinosaki," and "Hashidate" lines up to their final days, captured with newly filmed footage of them in operation on their entire routes.
The 381 series was introduced to the Limited Express "Yakumo" in 1982 with the electrification of the Hakubi Line.
Having already withdrawn from the Chuo West Line "Shinano" and the Kisei Main Line "Kuroshio," it was subsequently operated only on these lines.
Eventually, it became the last JNR limited express train to operate on a regular schedule, but this service finally ended in June 2024, with the baton passed to the new 273 series.
In recent years, it has been active for a long time in the "Yuttari Yakumo" color scheme, but various paint schemes have also been revived before its retirement.
This work records the trains in various colors as they run along the entire route from Okayama to Izumoshi.
In addition, previously unreleased footage filmed for this production of the "Kounotori," "Kinosaki," and "Hashidate" operated by trains from the Fukuchiyama Train Depot is included.

■ Downward Yakumo: Okayama >>> Izumoshi
Proceeding onto the Hakubi Line from Kurashiki, the train enters mountainous terrain shortly after passing Soja.
From Bitchu Takahashi, the line becomes single-track, and the train travels north along the valley carved by the Takahashi River.
After crossing the Chugoku Mountains, passing through the intermediate major station of Niimi, it enters the plains of Tottori Prefecture.
The "Yuttari Yakumo" color, "JNR color," "Super Yakumo" color, and "Green Yakumo" formations demonstrate their brisk running as they advance onto the San'in Main Line, arriving at the final destination, Izumoshi.

■ Goto General Rolling Stock Center Izumo Branch
At the home of the 381 series, which also houses the 285 series for the Limited Express "Sunrise Izumo," format filming of the "JNR color" and "Green Yakumo" is conducted.
The successor train, the 273 series, which was temporarily assigned together with the 381 series for a short period after its debut in March 2024, is also introduced.

■ Kounotori, Kinosaki, Hashidate
The 381 series, assigned to the Fukuchiyama Train Depot from 2012 to 2015, was used for the Limited Express "Kounotori," "Kinosaki," and "Hashidate" on the Fukuchiyama Line and San'in Main Line, known as the "Kitakinki Big X Network."
This section covers footage of the trains in operation at various points along their routes and the retirement ceremony held at Fukuchiyama Station on October 30, 2015.
The temporary limited express "Mahoroba" on the Yamatoji Line is also included.

■ Upward Yakumo: Izumoshi >>> Okayama
The four-colored trains speed by, with the scenic landscapes of the Chugoku region, such as Lake Shinji and Mt. Daisen, visible from the train windows.

■ THE LAST DAY
The final powerful run of the 381 series "Yakumo" on June 14, 2024, its de facto last day of regular operation.
At the terminal station of Izumoshi, many fans gathered to welcome the train's arrival.
