The Athlete 12SSP was released first. It was designed as a sinking pencil with a strong focus on flatfish in surf games. However, through repeated testing, it was discovered that its action was also effective for fish such as yellowtail and sea bream. This led to the development of the Athlete 14SSP. To target fish with strong jaw power like sea bream, large yellowtail, large flatfish, and ranker sea bass, it is equipped with through wire, creating a lure that can directly confront monster-class fish.
While also designed for use from rocky shores, not just the surf, its center of gravity is slightly shifted forward compared to the Athlete 12SSP to suppress lift. However, its flight posture remains stable, achieving astonishing casting distances comparable to metal jigs. The ability to cast long distances is a significant advantage not only in surf fishing but also when fishing from rocky shores.
The action has become wider due to the increased size. It features a wide wobbling roll with a large S-shaped movement. As the retrieve speed increases, irregular actions are added, intensely stimulating predatory fish.
