Product Description
The official name of Guri-cha is "Gyokurocha" (Jade Green Tea). It originated in Kyushu at the end of the Meiji era, initially produced for export. Nowadays, it has become a popular souvenir from Izu in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture.
The difference between Guri-cha and Sencha is that the final shaping process, called "Seimou," which arranges the last leaves, is omitted. Guri-cha is kneaded into a shape resembling a "magatama" (curved jewel or comma-shaped bead). Because of its appearance—resembling a rounded, bumpy shape (similar to a "guri guri")—it is called Guri-cha. Our Guri-cha is particularly deeply steamed, which results in finer leaves.
