※What is DSD (Direct Stream Digital)?
: A recording and mastering method that converts analog signals into high-speed 1-bit digital signals using a delta-sigma modulator and records them directly.
Compared to the PCM method used in conventional CDs, it can reproduce simple and natural musical signals, capturing even the airiness of the music close to analog signals.
In "Best Classic 100," all titles adopted this "DSD mastering" during the previous (2000) series release to improve sound quality.
This time, to achieve even higher quality sound, all titles were mastered with "DSD" and "Rubidium Clock Cutting."
※What is Rubidium Clock Cutting?
The signal that serves as the standard for digital equipment is called the master clock. Digital audio has evolved to high-bit and high-sampling rates,
becoming increasingly high-performance, and digital data continues to increase. The timing accuracy for reading and writing this data depends entirely on the oscillation of this master clock.
Typically, crystal oscillators used in clocks are used for master clocks, but their accuracy is about 10^-4 to 10^-6.
With the recent increase in digital data volume, higher precision master clocks have become necessary, and professionals have started using rubidium or cesium as clock sources instead of crystal oscillators.
Rubidium's accuracy is about 10^-9, which is much higher than that of crystals. Using this rubidium master clock for high-precision cutting allows for sound quality faithful to the master.
