Product Description
This is a tatami mat cover with water-repellent treatment applied to both sides of the rush grass fabric (however, it will not repel moisture at 40°C or higher, such as hot water, tea, or coffee). Simply laying this cover over your tatami mats will refresh the room. Use it to refresh tatami mats that have been discolored by sunlight, or as a cover to protect new tatami mats from getting dirty. Unlike regular rush grass covers that require dry wiping before use, this product has undergone mud dyeing and then a water-repellent coating, so dry wiping is not necessary. You can spread it out and use it as soon as it arrives. The water-repellent treatment is applied to both the front and back of the fabric, making it reversible and economical for double-sided use. This product uses rush grass approximately 105-110 cm long, of which about 88 cm is used. The edges of the mat may appear somewhat whitish. (This is not due to sun exposure, but is the natural color of the root and tip ends of the rush grass.) Longer rush grass is considered higher quality. Rush grass has reddish-brown tips, white roots, and a green middle section. Using more of the high-quality green middle section results in a more durable and beautiful finish. Rush grass has air-purifying and humidity-regulating properties, and is resistant to dirt. "Hiba essence," extracted from the Hiba tree in Aomori Prefecture, has been applied to the fabric surface using the manufacturer's unique technology. Hiba essence contains hinokitiol, a substance with extremely high antibacterial properties for a natural compound. (Compared to untreated products, it has antibacterial and deodorizing effects.) *As this is a natural material and each piece is handcrafted by artisans, there may be variations in shape and slight differences from the stated size. *Due to the water-repellent treatment process, the rush grass fabric may appear slightly reddish. Please understand this in advance.
