The Pixiu (Hikyū) is a creature from ancient Chinese mythology, called a winged beast before the Han Dynasty. Originally called a 'beast that wards off evil,' it had the effect of warding off evil spirits, but in Feng Shui, it has been given the blessed characteristic of granting any wish.
It is said to be excellent at gathering wealth, and particularly effective for money earned through gambling or betting (speculative wealth). When placed indoors with its head facing the entrance, it is said to invite wealth from all directions into the home.
It is said that when one researches Feng Shui, they eventually arrive at Pixiu, making it one of the ultimate Feng Shui items. It is said to be more effective the more it is cherished, and in China, it is carefully tended to daily by offering clean water and burning incense.
Pixiu has an interesting characteristic: it is 'sleepy.'
