Kojiro Oka
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Majored in Chinese language at university.
Later, he joined Shiki Theatre Company as a seasonal member. In 1994, he won the audition for the role of Enjolras in 'Les Misérables,' and with his glamorous appearance and overwhelming singing ability, he quickly rose to become a musical star.
From 2003, he played Javert in the same production and participated in 'Les Misérables' for 17 years.
In addition to musicals, he actively performs straight plays, TV (including NHK Taiga drama 'Yoshitsune'), radio, concerts from full orchestras to live houses, talk shows, and more.
His solo albums include 'Love Collection,' 'The Prayer,' and 'Best of Musical.'
He also established the 'Miss Saigon Fund' following the Miss Saigon production and is passionate about volunteer activities. He is a visiting professor at Kyushu Otani Junior College.

When he includes a female song as an accent in concert or live programs, people often say, 'Mr. Oka's singing of female songs is nice.'
Amidst this, he received an offer to create a CD focusing on songs sung by women in musicals, and with the spirit of 'try the rejected stories, ride the waves that come,' he immediately accepted.
When considering how to select from many works, he kept in mind 'from works I participated in,' 'songs that resonate with the character,' and 'songs that feel attractive.'

This time, he asked talented arrangers Takeshi Seno and Ken Fumitsu to arrange the songs with different tastes, and with Makito Nishitani on cello, Shigeki Ippon on bass, and Makoto Yoshida on clarinet, he recorded live in one take, just like on stage, with no retakes!
He performed (sang) the feelings of each woman in a continuous drama over several minutes.
When revisiting these songs, he felt how intensely, sadly, strongly, emptily, and lovingly he experienced them.
A common thought is 'Oh, what a beautiful way of living!'
He reflects on how the lives of women, observed and touched in the audience, are expressed through his body as a male.
