『ノヴァルナ』はアブストラクトなタイル配置ゲームで、ゲームごとに新しい戦略を開発し、
月時計からもたらされる場をできるだけ効果的に回ります。
そこでは全ての選択が、遠い将来にわたる結果をもたらすのです。
このゲームでは、各ターン、月時計を進めてタイルを取り、自分の前に配置します。
新たに配置するタイルはすべて、達成しなければならない新しいタスクが記されています。
タスクを達成するためには、タスクで指定された色のタイルを、タスクが記載されているタイルに隣接して配置する必要があります。
もちろん、ここで配置したタイルにも新しいタスクが記載されています。
タスクを達成するたびに、タイル上の達成したタスクの上に自分のマーカーを1つ配置できます。
最初に自分のマーカーをすべて配置すれば、ゲームに勝利します。
ローゼンベルク作の『パッチワーク』のタイル選択のメカニズムと、
モーセル作の『Habitats/ハビタッツ』のタイル配置によるタスク達成のメカニズムが絶妙に融合した、
