"Middle Ages" is a board game of drafting and set collection with eye-catching artwork, designed by Marc-Andre, creator of "Splendor" and "Bargain" (Barony), where players can enjoy solid strategic play and mind games with simple rules.
In "Middle Ages," players become one of the lords of a certain kingdom and aim to prosper their own territory and build the most wealth.
On your turn, you place your lord meeple on one of the tiles in the next column, and take the tile where your meeple was previously placed to add to your territory.
There are 8 types of tiles, each with different abilities. Collecting tiles of the same type makes it easier to earn coins, but you will be penalized at the end of the game based on the types of tiles not placed.
Furthermore, tiles appearing up to 3 rounds in advance are always revealed.
Turns begin with the player who placed their lord meeple on a tile closer to the front in the previous round, but since some tiles are more likely to appear at the front than others, it's not always best to go first.
It is important to choose which tile to place your meeple on, not only considering the tiles you want, but also considering the tiles other players want and how they might move.
When each player takes one turn, one round ends, and the game ends after a total of 12 rounds.
The player with the most coins at that point is the winner.
