Founded in 1988 in Waldviertel, northern Austria.

Waldviertel, Johannes Gutmann’s hometown, is located in one of Austria’s coldest regions, at an altitude of 500–1000 meters.

Winter temperatures can drop below -25°C.

While the environment is harsh, it is less prone to pests, making it suitable for organic cultivation. The cold climate helps herbs develop a particularly fragrant aroma.

Sonnentor’s Commitment

- Uses raw materials cultivated through biodynamic farming

Herbs are grown according to lunar cycles, and only high-quality tea leaves are carefully hand-harvested.

All parts of the plants—flowers, fruits, leaves, roots—are incorporated as ingredients.

- No preservatives or artificial fragrances are used

Herbs and teas harvested and processed by hand retain their natural aroma, eliminating the need for artificial fragrances.

- No chemical processing in packaging

Tea bags are made from 100% biodegradable, unbleached recycled paper.

Threads are unbleached cotton without oil coating.

Outer packaging is made from biodegradable cellophane.

- Community-based initiatives

Sonnentor’s farms involve local people in herb cultivation and harvesting. This activity revitalizes small villages and has developed into an international industry. Currently, over 150 contracted farms operate within Austria, with additional overseas farms for ingredients that are difficult to cultivate domestically.

Each year, President Johannes Gutmann and the quality control team visit these farms to inspect quality and build mutual trust.
