This organic herbal tea blend is based on the "Moon Rhythm Method," which has been passed down for hundreds of years in the Tyrol region of Austria. This method reflects the relationship between the lunar cycle and the human body.

The assortment includes four types of teas corresponding to the moon phases—New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter—packaged together for 28 days, aligned with the lunar cycle.

EU Organic Certification / A common organic certification across EU countries. Products bearing this mark are produced and manufactured in accordance with EU organic standards.

For processed products, this indicates that over 95% of agricultural raw materials are organic.

Organic JAS / Certified under Japan's Agricultural and Forestry Standards Organic JAS system. The certification is granted after inspection by a Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries-registered organization, confirming compliance with production standards.

Founded in 1988 in the Waldviertel region of northern Austria, Sonnentau was established by Johannes Gutmann.

Waldviertel, Gutmann’s hometown, is one of Austria’s coldest regions, located at an altitude of 500 to 1,000 meters.

Winter temperatures can drop below -25°C.

Despite the harsh environment, pests struggle to thrive, making it suitable for organic cultivation. The cold also strengthens the herbs, resulting in particularly fragrant plants.

What began as a small village herbal tea has gained worldwide attention for its high quality and philosophy.

Today, Sonnentau’s products are used in top-tier hotels worldwide and are loved in approximately 45 countries, representing a leading European herbal tea brand.

Sonnentau’s Commitment

- Uses raw materials cultivated through biodynamic farming.

Herbs are grown in accordance with the lunar cycle, and only high-quality tea leaves are carefully hand-harvested.

All parts of the plants—flowers, fruits, leaves, roots—are incorporated as ingredients.

- No preservatives or artificial fragrances are used.

Herbal teas and herbs harvested and processed by hand retain their natural aroma, eliminating the need for artificial fragrances.

- No chemical processing is applied to packaging.

Tea bags are made from 100% biodegradable, unbleached recycled paper.

Threads are unbleached cotton without oil coating.

Outer boxes are made from biodegradable cellophane material.

- Community-based initiatives

At Sonnentau’s farms, local residents participate in growing and harvesting herbs. This cultivation energizes small villages and has developed into an international industry. Currently, over 150 contracted farms operate within Austria, and for ingredients difficult to cultivate domestically, overseas contracted farms are used.

Each year, Sonnentau’s President Johannes Gutmann and the quality control team visit the farms to check quality and build mutual trust.

- Packaging designed by picture book artists

Many of Sonnentau’s charming herbal tea packages are illustrated by German and Austrian picture book artists, conveying messages embedded in the teas.

*Note:* The plant-derived cellophane used to wrap Sonnentau products has been well received for being environmentally friendly. However, starting in 2021, Sonnentau has phased out cellophane to become more sustainable. The individual packaging has been improved to include a thin plant-based film on the inside, which preserves the aroma and flavor of the herbs. Please note that product packaging may vary during the transition period.
