400 years ago, the wife wove Jofu for her husband, who was promoted in recognition of his achievements by the Ryukyu Kingdom, and
as a token of gratitude, presented it to the king, which is considered the beginning of Miyako Jofu.
It is full of noble dignity and was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of the country in Showa 53 (1978).
The rustic warmth of hand-spun, the supple texture that is hard to believe it is linen,
and the firmness with elasticity—ultimate admiration,
one of Japan's four great Jofu fabrics, "Miyako Jofu".
Miyako Jofu begins with the process of making the thread, and
carefully cultivated ramie fibers are split thinly using fingers or nails,
then carefully twisted and spun into yarn by hand, following a pattern, and then tied in kasuri (ikat) according to the design,
dyed with natural dyes such as indigo and fukugi, and then carefully hand-woven.
The finishing process called "washing," along with starching and kinuta pounding (beating with a wooden mallet),
makes it a supreme handmade product.
It is also very lightweight, with excellent elasticity and luster, resulting in a superb item.

Even skilled artisans only weave about 30 cm per day in fine kasuri patterns,
and it features an elegant and beautiful overlapping hana-bishi (flower diamond) pattern woven into a black indigo background.
