It is said that the Saigo pattern, passed down to the modern era, was created in the Taisho era.
At that time, from the late Meiji period to the Taisho era, the shime machine was researched, developed, and put into practical use,
and a registration system for kasuri patterns was established, leading to the invention of various patterns.
Each village began to compete to create new patterns and more technically demanding patterns.

Among them, a single pattern was developed.
The design, shime machine (kasuri tying), weaving, and division of labor in Oshima Tsumugi require skilled artisans, making it the highest quality pattern.
The island people named such 'superior in both quality and technique' patterns,
after Saigo Takamori, a pride of the island, the 'Saigo pattern'.
Even after more than 100 years, the technique has been passed down, and with pride and love,
they continue to produce patterns worthy of Saigo Takamori's name.
