Hakata Ori from the Chikuzen region is a silk fabric produced in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
It features a geometric pattern based on the trident and flower plate, which are Buddhist ritual implements.
Since Chikuzen domain lord Nagamasa Kuroda made it an offering to the shogunate during the Edo period,
it is also called Hakata Offering or Offering Hakata.
The warp threads wrap around the weft threads, with only the warp threads visible on the surface, creating a weave called 'okoe-ori' where horizontal ridges stand out.
Because it uses 30 to 60 thin warp threads, it has firmness and stiffness, a hard texture, and a glossy appearance.
It is said to be a tightly woven, durable, and easy-to-tie obi.
It is a very high-quality item.
