Since Nagamasa Kuroda, the lord of the Chikuzen domain during the Edo period, made it a gift to the shogunate,
it is also called Hakata gift or gift Hakata.
It is woven with a technique called 'ke-une weaving,' which makes the horizontal ridges stand out.
Using 30 to 60 thin weft threads, it has firmness and resilience, and
the fabric is stiff with a glossy appearance.
