Honba Chikuzen Hakata-ori is a
silk fabric produced in and around Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Geometric patterns based on the Dokko and Kasara, which are Buddhist implements, are woven.
Since Nagamasa Kuroda, the lord of the Chikuzen domain during the Edo period, presented it to the shogunate,
it is also called Hakata Kenjo or Kenjo Hakata.
It is woven using a warp-faced twill weave, which makes the horizontal ribs stand out.
Because it uses 30-60 fine warp threads, it has stiffness and firmness,
resulting in a firm texture and a glossy finish.
It is said to be an obi that ties securely, is resistant to coming undone, and is easy to tie.
This is a very high-quality masterpiece.
