The genuine Chikuzen Hakata Ori is a silk fabric produced in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and its surrounding areas.
It features geometric patterns based on Buddhist ritual implements such as the dokko and flower dishes.
Since Chikuzen lord Kuroda Nagamasa presented it to the shogunate during the Edo period,
it is also called Hakata Presentation or Presentation Hakata.
It is woven with a technique called 'okie weaving,' which makes the horizontal ridges stand out.
Because it uses 30 to 60 fine weft threads, it has a firm and resilient texture,
a stiff fabric feel, and a glossy appearance.
It is said to be a well-tied, hard-to-fall-apart, easy-to-tie obi.
This is a very high-quality item.
